Culver Union Township Fire Department - Roll Call of Fire Chiefs

The election of the fire chief is in December. He takes office in January. If the chief found it necessary to resign during the year an election woqld be held immediately.

There has been controversy as to the number of chiefs - in 1980 was found:

Since 1903 - 12 men have served as Fire Chief; T. Saine, O. Gandy, Al Roberts, C.C. Waite, Fred Cook, Roy Swigart. A.M. Fishburn, A. Cromley, Wayne Von Ehr, Cary Cummins, Dave Burns, and Don Overmyer

Note another source gave Fire chiefs also as Harry Saine (this is probably T. Saine), [-?-] G oddy (this is O. Gandy), and Archie Blanchard before Dave Burns. Yet a list found given in 1949 gives only 11 fire chiefs including David and these men were not listed.

3 - O. A. [Oland A. ] Gandy - Jul 9, 1906- Jul 13, 1908

1945 - 24 Jan O. A. Gandy, age 75, died Dec. 31 in Moline, Illl. He was an expert printer at The Citizen for over 20 years and served as Fire Chief in Culver for a long period.

1912 - January 1 - A. M. Roberts was re-elected chief of the fire company ..

1924 - Jan. 23 E. O. Byrd has been appointed fire chief with Roy Swigart as assistant.

1934 - jan 17 - Alfred Cromley has been, elected chief of the Culver Fire, Department, succeeding Arthur Fishburn, Wayne VonEhr was named assistant chief.

1935 - May 22 - Wayne Von Ehr has resigned as chief of the Culver Volunteer Fire Department, effective June 10.

16 - Claude "Cary" H. Cummins Jun 10, 1935- Jun 11, 1943

17 - David B. Burns - Jun 11, 1943 to Jul 9, 1973; joined 1933

1943 Jun 30 - David Burns has been elected chief, of the Culver Volunteer Fire Department to fill the vacancy created when Cary Cummins resigned

18 - Donovan "Dewey" Overmyer (1952)- Jul 9, 1973 to Feb. 1993

19 - Lance Overmyer - Feb. 1993 to 2008 (joined 1965)

20 - Mike Grover - 2008 to 2012
