    John E. Dennie, Former Trustee, Passes Away

    John E. Dennie, well known former resident of this community and one-time trustee of Union Township passed away last Thursday, NOv. 30 at his home in Norfolk, Nebr.

    Tine and details concerning the funeral and interrment conducted at Norflok were not available

    Born near Argos, Mr. Dennie was 88 years of age at the time of his death.

    When quite small his parents moved to Iowa where his father died when Mr. Dennie was 12 years of Age.

    Returning to Indiana the family located near Argos where John assumed a larger share of the duties of operating the farm.

    A number of years later he went to South Bend where he was employed as a fruit and vegetable salesman.

    Mr. Dennie was employed as a carpneter during the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1892.

    Later he again became a salesman of fruit and vegetables in Chicago.

    In 1912 Mr. Dennie located near Culver.

    In 1922 he was elected assessor of Uniotn Township and in 1926 was elected trustee in which capacity he served for six years. During his term of office the present Community Building was erected. Illness prevented his finishing the second term as trustee.

    Following the death of his wife in 1936 he moved to Winter Haven Fla. where he operated an Orange grove later going to Norfolk, Nebr.

    Among the survivors are his wife and a son Elmer Dennie of Marsilon, Ohio.

    Mrs John E. Dennie Dies in Home Near Culver

    Mrs. John E. Dennie, 68, residing near Culver, passed away late Wednesday evening, March 25, 1935.

    She had been in poor health for two years.

    She is survived by her husband, John E. Dennie; three sisters: Mrs. Alzina Harries of Winfield, Kansas; Mrs. Katherine Duff, Argos; and Mrs. Ida Beall of South Bend; one brother John Wallace of near Argos.

    Mrs. Dennie was a member of Grace Reformed Church, Home Econoics club and Culver City Club.

    Funeral services were held in the Culver Grace Reformed Church at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon.

    Burial was made in Mape Grove cemetery, near Argos.


Seems to have remarried for a 3rd time between 25 Mar 1936 and the 1940 to another Whose Name was also an Alice but middle intial of “M” and born about 1868 in Indiana. Also his obit states he was sruvived by his wife. In the 1950 city directories she was listed as residing at Residence 307 Philip av Norfolk, Nebraska

1937 - Apr 14 - Pans Trip West
    John E. Dennie plans to leave the first of next week on an automoble trip to the west coast.

    He will be gone about four weeks, visiting relatives as well as sight-seeing.

    Upon his return Mr. Dennie, who is a former township trustee, will locate in Plymouth and engage in the sale of real estate.


1938 - Jun 1 - FIsh and Game Club Buys 40 more acres
    The Maxinkuckee Fish & Game Club has increased its acerafe to 78 by the purchase of 40 acres of John E. Dennie. This land is adjancent to the site west of the town of Road 10 where the rearing ponds are located.

    Paul SNyder has purchased the remained of the Dennie farm, which includes 67 acres and buildings. Both tractts brought a total of $5750.
