Dinsmore [Densmore] Barn and Family

NOTE: clicking on images brings up a larger one to view

By what is stated on the back of the photo this property was a part of the original land grant of William Thompson.

Old Log Barn - The logs for this old barn were cut and hewed by W. D. Thompson, who built the barn on land entered by his father who came here in 1836. It adjoined the old Voreis farm in union twonship, and is known in later years as the old Densmore place. this building was standing still a few years before the death of mr.Thompson, and this picture was taken while at a family reunion, Mr. Thompson and his sister, Mrs. Julia Harsch, standing near by.

And the location of the Dinsmore and Vories farms are thus - they are now part of the Culver Military Academy holdings. This is from the 1898 map; the Dinsmore and Vories holdings are also on the 1880 map but the one I have at present is cropped short of showing the entire holdings as presented below.

The following 1880 map below shows W. Dinsmore

This barn could of been the one mention in this article:
Work on the airport project northeast of town began Monday with ten men employed in preliminary clearing of the land. In tearing down the old barn that must be removed to make way for the runways, it was found the structure was built of walnut and no nails were used, wooden pegs holding the beams and boards together, making the structure an old landmark. - - 17 January 1934 - Culver Citizen
