Dr. Gustavus Adolphus Durr “Old Dr. Durr”

Dr. Gustavus Adolphus Durr “Old Dr. Durr” Birth 5 Apr 1819 Baptism 20 Apr 1819 Evangelisch, Lahr, Offenburg, Baden / Grossried (Großried), Preußen, Baden died aet 61 (1880-1883) the son of Friedrich Duerr and Emilie Karoline Faesch

Dr. G. A. Durr located at Monterey and moved to Lake Maxinkuckee in 1856, and he remained in practice there until his death at the age of sixty-one years.

In the 1866s, the doctor owned a tract of land, consisting of somewhat over 76 acres and located south and southwest of Marmont. His land included the present JOHN HAWK farm and extended from the corner back of the Evangelical Church to the Doll Road, west of town. It was bounded on the north by the present. Mill Road, on the east by the section line road, on the south by the M. G. GOULD land, and on the west by the Doll Road. At that time there were only two structures on the land, one at the corner of the section line road and Mill Road, the other some distance down the section line road, (which evidently followed the present alley between Main and Ohio streets).

This property did not comprise the doctor's residence, which was located nearer the center of the town of Marmont.
Still another ancient house is the former Doctor Durr house. east of the police station that is now Lake Street. It is on the east side of the street, between Lake SHore Drive and Washington Street, in the Knapp Addition. Dr. G, A. Durr once owned the house and delt there. It is a low-built house. We are told that there used to be a gravel pit on the Durr property, sort of back of where Olive SHilling no lives - Ont Township's Yestrdays - The Culver Citizen Jan 08, 1936
