William S. Easterday

We have with us today Culver 's oldest business man from point of number of years in continuous business. It was 46 years ago, November 1893, to be exact that W. S. Easterday took up the business he sill heads, Easterday Funeral Home, in which he is now associated with his son, William R. Easterday, and his wife.

He estimates that he has buried more people that the present population of Culver.

Mr. Easterday was born in Marion county, Ohio, but doesn't remember much about it since he came when one year old to the present Jacob Cromely farm, where he lived until he moved into town. He has held a large number of offices during these may years, among those he can recall being treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce for five years; treasurer and trustee of the K. of P. Building Corporation for five years; town treasurer for eight years; helth officer for three years; secretary of the school board for three years; township trustee for six years, buring which time the gravel roads and the new library building were started, and the Burr Oak schoolhouse was built; secretary-treasurer of the Evangelical church for more years than he can exactly remember, though his first term, started in 1899, church trustee for 30 years; superintendent of the Evangelical Sunday school for 19 successive years, and assistant for six years.

He played for many years in the town band, first joining the organization in 1895.
