    Services Friday For Jonathan R. Eckman, Age 86
      Jonathan Roscoe Eckman, age 85, died at his home at 22 W. Jefferson St. early Wednesday morning after an illness of several days.

      Mr. Eckman was born in Huntington county, Ind. on Aug. 4 1872 and spent his early life there.

      He graduated from the Indianapolis School for the Deaf.

      In 1902 Mr. Eckman came to Culver and worked here as a gardener for many years.

      Surviving are his widow, Della; a daughter, Miss Daisy D. Eckman at home; a son, Earl R Eckman, Culver; two sisters: Mrs. Leatha Witestine and Mrs. Minnie Barrett, both of Fort Wayne.

      Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Easterday Funeral Home where friends may call. Dr. Meredith Sprunfer, pastor of the Grace United Church will officiate and burial will be at the Culver Masonic Cemeery. = may 21 1958 - Citizen.

    Mrs. Della Eckman, 422 W. Jefferson Street, Culver, will observe her 91st birthday on June 16. The only living one of six children of John and Eliza Saine, she was born June 16, 1874 in Miami County. Lived on a farm there, then family moved to Delong where father had a general store.

    Went deaf from illness at two years of age. Met Jonathan R. Eckman at School for the Deaf in Indianapolis. Married him in Delong on October 19, 1898. Lived in Huntington then moved to Delong then to Culver. Daughter and son-in-law are Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Overmyer who live with her, and a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Eckman who live nearby. Guests at her birthday dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hinkle, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Flora and children, Mrs. Della May, Mr. and Mrs. Don Bruce, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Luse and family of Grovertown, Harvey Miller of Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Maxson of Argos, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Miller and son Raymond, and Mrs. Miller's mother, Mrs. Snyder.     Mrs Della Eckman Dies March 27, At Age of 94
      Mrs. Della Eckman, age 94, 422 W. Jeffferson St. CUlver, died at 6 p.m. March 27 at Prairie View Nursing Home, Warsaw.

      She had been in faling health for two years.

      Mrs. Eckman was born Jun 16, 1874 at Rockfield, Ind. to John and ELiza (Okeley) Saine and was married to Johnathan R. Eckman on Oct 14, 1898 at Delong, Ind., who preceeded her in death May 21, 1958.

      She has been a resident of Culver the past 67 years.

      Surviving are one son, Earl R. Eckma n and one daughter, Mrs. Daisy D. Oveimyer both of Culver.

      Funeral services were held Sunday at the Easterday-Bonine Funeral Home in Culver. Rev. John Krueger , pastor cf Grace United Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was in the Culver Masonic Cemetery - Apr 3, 1969 - Citzen

    Earl R. Eckman, well known Culver resident, retired Thursday,Dec. 30, from the staff of the local Post Office after 30 years and 8 months of service. Mr. Eckman and his wife, the former Margaret Bolin, reside at 440 W. Jefferson St., Culver .

    Starting his postal career in May, 1935, Mr. Eckman was the only member of the present staff who had worked in the old Post Office Building which was located at the present site of The State Exchange Bank.

    "Eck," as he is affectionately known by his fellow employees and many friends, has been very active in civic, church, and community affairs. He is a member of the Grace United Church of Christ, where he served as a member of the consistory, and is a charter member and past president of the Culver Lions Club.

    On Thursday morning at the Post Office Mr. Eckman was presented a Certificate of Service from the Postmaster General as well as a commendatory letter from Postmaster E. Wayne Mattox stating that his punctuality, devotion to duties, and activity in civic affairs made him a credit to the Postal Service.

    Mr. Eckman was honored by his fellow employees at a dinner at the Wil-Wood Cafe in Leiters F o r d on Tuesday evening, Jan. 4, which was attended by 28 friends.

    Norman M. Scruggs has been promoted to fill his position at the Post Office and Mr. Eckman's plans for the future include pursuing his many hobbies and civic activities.

    Jesse Lincoln Overmyer (Franklin, Daniel, David, Philip, J.G.) forth child of Franklin L. and Myrtilla (McKee) Overmyer. was born February 21, 1906 in Fulton county, Indiana near Lake Bruce.

    On September 30, 1961 he married Daisy Della Eckman in Culver, Marshall county, Indiana.

    He was born January 29, 1914. Jesse started painting when he was 15 years old and two years later started paper hanging. He as in the decorating business until his heart attack in 1970. Jesse and his sister, Nina took care of their parents in their later years until their deaths

    He also helped his wife, Daisy, take care of her mother until her death in 1969. He then took care of his sister, Nina, in her later years until her death in 1974.

    Jess has always loved to fish. He once had an article about his bluegill fishing on Lake Maxinkuckee written up and published in Outdoor Life. For about 35 years he and later Daisy, fished the Hayward, Wisconsin area. They caught lots of bluegills, walleyes, perch, and about ten muskies, for Jesse, the largest weighing 27 lbs. His wife caught a 12 lb. muskie on their honeymoon.

    Jess has gone back to doing some paper hanging and some painting, just enough to "keep him busy".

    He is involved with several organizations, Odd Fellows, Lions (president twice) and Eagles of which he as manager for awhile until he resigned. Jess is now treasurer of the local club and of their district.

    He is also on call to serve the Bonnie Funeral Home Director.

    Daisy is employed at Culver Military Academy as a secretary. She plans to retire soon, so she and Jess can really enjoy life together and do things whenever the motion strikes them. She is involved with the Rebekahs and is presently vice-president of the Eagles' Auxilary.

    Jesse L. OVERMYER, 77, of 422 W. Jefferson St., Culver, died at 5:55 p.m. Thursday at South Bend Memorial Hospital. He had been ill three weeks.

    He was born Feb. 21, 1906, in Fulton County to Franklin and Myrtille McKEE OVERMYER. He lived in Marshall and Fulton counties all his life. On Sept. 30, 1961, he married Daisy ECKMAN. She survives. A retried painter and decorator, he was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Culver, and Lions Club and Eagles Lodge of Culver and the Maxinkuckee I.O.O.F. Lodge.

    Surviving with the wife are a niece and a nephew.

    Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Culver Grace United Church of Christ, the Rev. Walter VONDEROHE officiating.

    Burial will be in the Bruce Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the Bonine Funeral Home, Culver, after 2 p.m. Saturday, and until noon on Sunday. Memorials may be made to the Grace United Church of Christ or the Heart Association."Rochester Sentinel, Friday, May 27, 1983
