    Charles Medbourn, 70, Passes Away

    Charles Ezra Medbourn, 70 years old, prominent local business, man and widely known resident. died early yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon followoing a bried illness.

    Active throughout his life his sudden passing came as a shock to his family and friends.

    Although Mr. Medbourn jad been slightly indisposed fot the past week as a result of a cold, he had been continuing his normal day-to-day activities, until after breakfast yesterday morning whe he returned to bed.

    At noon as Mrs. Medbourn was starting to serve him some lunvh he became critically ill and pssed away at 1:00 o'clock. On Monday he had asked his daughter Mrs. WIllaim Herrman to accompany him and drive his car to neighboring communities where he made several business calls.

    The son of Thomas and Mary E. Medbourn, he was born Aug 9, 1881 near Culver and excepting for a period of ten years when he was located in Logansport, he spent his entire life, here.

    For the past severl years he has been assoicated in the Okay Rubber Welders business here in Culver.

    ' Previously he had operated a grocery market and years ago was affiliated with the Medbourn Ice and Coal Company.

    While at Logansport je was associated with the Lake Maxinkuckee Ice and Coal Company and later traveled for the Muelhausen Spring Company.

    During his stay there he was superentindent of the Broadway Methodist Sunday School and the Cass County Sunday Schools. He. was also a member of the Rotary CLub and president of the Chamber of Commerce.

    Active in church affairs here, he had been a member of the Methodist Church for 67 years. thought to be a record in terms of continuing membership. He had served on the Culver town board and was a charter member of the Culver Volunteer Fire Department.

    On December 25, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Claire McLane.

    Survivors are the widow two daughters: Mrs. Donna Louise Edgingron and Mrs. Marilyn Zechiel of Indianapolis and six grandchildren.

    Funeral sercices will be conducted at the Methodist chirch on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harru Campbell officiating.

    Burial willl be in the Culver Cemetery

    Mrs. C. Medbourn Dies After Illness Of Several Months

    Mrs. Charles E. (Claire) Medbourn, 81, 290 South Shore Drive, Culver , died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry D. Edgington, 286 South Shore Drive, Culver , following an illness of nine months.

    Mrs. Medbourn was born on March 7, 1884, in Miami County, Ind., to Ira and Margaret F. (Bowers) McLane, and lived nearly all of her life in Culver , with the exception of a few years in Logansport. She was married in 1902 to Charles E. Medbourn who preceded her in death on April 29, 1952.

    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donna L. Edgington, and Mrs. Marilyn M. Herrmann , both of Culver ; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Kennedy, Logansport, and Mrs. June Studebaker, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two brothers, Vernon McLane, South Bend, and Frank McLane of, Culver ; seven grand children and one great grandchild.

    Mrs. Medbourn was a member of the Cuilver Methodist Church where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, w i t h the pastor, Rev. Carl Q. Baker, officiating. Burial will be made in the Culver Masonic Cemetery.

    Friends may call at the Easterday Bonine Funeral Home, Culver, after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, until noon on Friday, Jan. 28, and then at the church until the hour of the service. - Culver Citizen - Jan 27, 1966
