Lake Maxinkuckee Association History 1950-1959

1951 - Aug 29 - Lake Assn. Plans Cottage Survey to Eliminate Pollution

A report on the progress of the joint sewage disposal program now being worked out by the Town of Culver and the Culver Military Academy and presented before the annual meeting of the Lake Maxinkuckee Association last week brought forth the proposal that property owners around the rest of the lake must take action to insure that all elementary sources of pollution are cleared up.

A full discussion of the suggestion indicated that the Cottager Association would cooperate fully.

President Don Trone announced this morning that Dr. M. D. Baker and Dr. K. K. Kraning would be co-chairman of a committee which will work in cooperation with Dr. Vore, county health officer, in conducting a survey with a view to eliminating all possible sources of pollution in the cottage areas.

Don Hand, president of the Culver Town Board presented the report on the sewage disposal program.

In other matters brought before the annual meeting, the membership approved a plan of numbering cottages all around the lake. Some years ago, cottages along the East Side were numbered and the approval of the new measure will provide a means of more easily reaching and identifying every lake cottage.

The Association went on record as favoring the establishment of a roadside park along State Road 17 along the West Shore of the lake.

The membership lauded the splendid efforts of the Maxinkuckee Playhouse and felt that Directors Martin Tahse and Paul Rutledge and members of the 1951 Playhouse cast should be highly commended for their efforts during the current season.

A resolution commending Capt. James I. Rich, Association patrolman was unanimously adopted.

The meeting held in the lounge of the State Exchange Bank was attended by about forty members.

Don Trone was re-elected president of the Association for the forth-coming year and other reelected officers included: Dr. K. K. Kraning, vice-president; and Carl M. Adams, secretary-treasurer.

Members of the board of directors elected to serve for the next year included: Dr. Milan Baker, Mrs. Perry E. O'Neal, Franklin Hillis, Donald Behmer, Mrs. Herschel Rector, Robert Rust, Donald Hand, and W. 0. Osborn.
