Culver - The Lake Maxinkuckee Association, Inc. held its annual membership meeting, followed by a board meeting Saturday.

The association continues to be active in maintaining the safety and enjoyment of the lake.

Presiding at the annual meeting was outgoing President Dave Zeglis.

It was explained that the association will remain in very sound financial condition as long as a Department of Natural Resources (DNR)grant is received.

The major expenses of the Association are for lake patrol officer's salaries, equipment and patrol car expenses.

Newly elected President of the board, Jim Sturman, presided over the board meeting. It was unanimously decided to hold only one fundraiser next year. They are planning to continue the hog roast; however, the date will be moved to the Sunday in the Memorial Day holiday.

In previous years, golf outings were also held over the July 4 holiday. It was noted that participation for the 2007 golf outing was down, in part due to the fact that July 4 fell in the middle of the week.

The board also voted to increase the association dues of offset the amount that will be lost with dropping the golf outing.

Current Association members will be notified of the slight increase. The board discussed a number of measures that will be taken to increase membership. Of the 400 home owners on Lake Maxinkuckee, only 275 belong to the Association.

Additionally, the board reinstated Associate Memberships. They discussed several ways to increase membership in that area.
