CULVER - Services for Frank E. Amond, 78, of 110½ S. Main St., who died early Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joanne Kennedy of Lauderhill, Fla., after a lengthy illness, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bonine Funeral Home, Culver.

Rev. Matthew Kafka, pastor of St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church, of which he was a member, will officiate.

Burial will be in Culver Masonic Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, where the rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

He was born May 5, 1905, in Ilion, N.Y.

In 1939, he moved to Culver, coming from Connersville, Ind.

On June 20, 1930, in Concord, N.H., he married Emma Kun. She died in 1975.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Joanne) Kennedy of Lauderhill, Fla.; a son, Eddie F. of Indianapolis; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Pauline of Fulton, N.Y.; and a brother, Tom of Lexington, S.C.

From 1939 to 1943, he operated the Five and Ten Cent Store in Culver. He then operated the Shark Speed Boats on Lake Maxinkuckee and Lake Maxinkuckee Cruiser before his retirement. -- South Bend Tribune Sun, Jul 31, 1983 ·Page 42

CULVER - Mrs. Emma M. Amond, 65, of 110 S. Main, died at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday at the Miller's Merry Manor: Nursing Home in Plymouth following an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 17, 1909, at Perth Amboy, N.J. and had lived in Culver since 1939, coming from Connersville, Ind.

She and her husband owned and operated the Ben Franklin 5 and 10-cent store in Culver from-1939 to 1943. They then operated the Shark Speed Boats and the Lake Maxinkuckee Cruiser on Lake Maxinkuckee.



She was a member of St. Marys of the Lake Catholic Churck of Culver and the Altar Society of the church

She was married June 20, 1930, at Concord, N. H., to Frank E. Amond who survives with one son. Eddie F. Amond of Indianapolis; one daughter, Mrs. Joanne Kennedy of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her mother, Mrs. Mary Kun of Perth Amboy, N.J.; two sisters, Mrs. Helene Newberg of Perth Amboy and Mrs. Julia Palagyi of Fords, N.J.; two brothers, Steven Kun of Woodbridge, N.J. and William Kun of Perth Amboy, and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Culver. Rev. Joseph A. Lenk, pastor of the church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Culver Masonic Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bonine Funeral Home, Culver, after 2 p.m. Thursday, where tke rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Amond's came from Connersville, Indiana. Frank purchased the 5 & 10 cent store at 114 Main Street and put Emma in as manager of it; the Amonds operated the during their early years in Culver.

1940 July 31 Ben Oberlin has sold the Ben franklin to F. D. Amond of Ambrose, N. J. and will give possession on Aug. 1

1944 - Feb 16 - A business transaction was completed last week whereby Wilber Taylor bought the Ben Franklin 5 and 10 cent store from Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Amond.

Frank was building up his boat fleet for the cruise service to included boat rentals; purchasing from Don Behmer and Rex Mawhorter. Known as Captain Frank Amond, he operated the popular lake tour boat, The Maxinkuckee, for many years. He purchased The Maxinkuckee in 1941, and operated the tour boat, as well as Chris Craft speedboats, for decades until the Maxinkuckee was dry docked in 1976. Along with a Florida-based partner, the Amonds formed >Gold Coast Industries , through which Frank Amond manufactured Awnings by Amond. The awnings were sold and installed by Frank's son Eddie.

They resided at 802 lakeshore Dr. and in later years in an upstairs apartment at 110-112 S Main, which they had purchased in 1947; old Coast Industrie was also located there in the basement.
