Herman W. Gardner, 106 Leiws St., Culver , retired Feb 1, 1987 as Culver Standard Oil Agent after 26 years of service with the company. His duties are being taken over by Norman Baker whi was worked with Mr. Gardner for several years.

Mr Gardner began his career with the company as a service station operator in South Bend in 1931. He transferred to a tank truck driver salesman in 1933 and delivered furnance oil to the west half of South Bend. In 1937 he was promoted to Agent Trainer covering the north half of Indiana, and in the fall of 1937 he came to Culver where he was field representative or consumer sales. In July 1940, he was named head of the Culver Agency, a postion he has held for 26 Years.

Many interesting events and changes have taken place in his 36 years with the standard Oil Company. Mr. Gardner stated that he began his career with the company in the depths of the depression...
