Thornton WIlder's "Our Town" Now Being Presented at Playhouse.
"Our TOwn", the current attraction at the Maxinkuckee Playhouse, is one play theater goers
can't afford to miss. Thornton WIlder, the author, was awared the Pulitzer prize for his work,
and critics across the country claimed it as the best play of the year. Said the New York Times:
"If ever a play was preformed to live in the memory of an audience, 'Out Town' is that play"
Famous memories such as the stage manager, the umbrellas at the furnerl, the two step ladders,
and the unsual wedding scene are presented in "Our Town". The entire show is done without
scenery of any kind, except for a few tables and chairs.
It is the lighting, however, which is used with such great effect; first one protion of the stage and
then another is lighted, as the stage manager walks about and introduces the actors to the
audience. And what he talks of, the people he introduces - everything is from your own town.
You have met all the characters in the play before, as your neighbor, your friend, or the person who
sits next to your at church. They talk of the same things you do, have the same problems as you,
and react in the same way as uyou. "Our Town" is really your town.
Herb Johnson, Nancy Todd, Martin Tahse, Paul Laumann, and Viea Messham are a few of the
large cast which is presenting this paly. Others include Burt Lane, Ardyth Lahrman, and Janet
Fahrbach.
The PLayhouse guarantees an evening of enjoyement wth this unsually-staged play.
