    One Townhip yester years states: Besides the pioneering family of EDWARD and HANNAH MEDBOURN, there was another of the MEDBOURN stock: the SAMUEL MEDBOURN family, which was related and which came about the same time. The homestead of this family was north of the present village of Culver, on Road 10, and is now known as the Garn place


      Samuel and his wife Ann married in 1848 and sailed from Liverpool, England in 1852, arriving in New York on March 31, 1852 aboard the ship Enterprise. Also aboard was their 2 year old daughter, Mary Ann Medbourn. Also aboard was Ann's brother, Joseph Wilford, and Joseph's wife, Charlotte (nee Kendall) Wilford.

      Samuel and his young family first settled in Lorain County, Ohio, with the Buswells and Wilfords. Samuel's family appears on the 1860 census there. By 1870, the family had moved to Culver

          Mary Ann Medbourn, olderst child of Samuel and Ann Medbourn, was born in Welford, England Ocr. 3, 1849.

          She came with her parents to America in 1851.

          The family settled near Elyria, Ohio and in 1860 came to Indiana and lived on the farm now owned by Fran Garn untilt he death of her father and morther.

          She was a loving and dutiful daughter and was always ready to help thise in need or sickness

          She united with the church of Christ when 18 years of age and has been a devoted member of the church untill her death.

          For the last 18 months she has made her home and was cared for by her sister-in-lae, Mrs. Joseph Medbourn, who gave her the beat of car, and attention, byt at last all earthly help failed and she quietly passed away at 10:45 a.m. on the evening of May 22, 1917, her ager being 68 years 7 months and 19 days.

          She was preceded in death by her father and mother, three sisters and three borthers.

          She leaves to moutn her death two sisters - Mrs. Celis VanSchoiack of Chico, Cal. and Mrs. Clara Haag of Kewanna, Ind. and one brother George L. Mebbourn of Culver, Ind., besides several other bear relatives and a host of friends

          The funeral service was conducted Saturday, May 25, at 2 p.m. at the Christain Church by R. W. Hoffman, her pastor. Her doby was laid to rest in Culver Cemetery - 18 May 1918 Culver Citizen.

          Robert A Barnhill was born in Wayne Township, Marion County, Indiana. He was a farmer all his life. He was married 3 times, and widowed 3 times.

          He married Emaline Chapman (1835 - 1870) on February 3, 1850 in Marshall County, Indiana. They had 2 children Liona Barnhill, born July 26, 1859, and Byron Chapman Barnhill, born June 16, 1861.. She died September 1, 1870 at the age of 35.

          Robert then married Dorcas L Medbourn on August 2, 1874 in Marshall County, Indiana. She died December 3, 1881 at the age of 29. They had no children together.

          Louisa A Lowery (1840 - 1903) was Robert's third and final wife. They were married on November 15, 1882 in Marshall County, Indiana. She died in 1903 at the age of 63. They had no children together.

          Annie Hunt, daughter of Elam and Elizabeth Hunt, was born Oct. 19, 1856, near Wabash and died at her home near Culver Nov. 27, 1914, aged 58 years.

          With her parents she came to Marshall county thirty years ago, locating on a farm north of Hibbard.

          She was married to George Medbourn at Hibbard April 10, 1902.

          At the age o'f 17 she became a member of the Wesleyan church in which she was faithful and active until eight years ago when with her husband she became a member of the Christian church of Culver.

          She is survived by her husband and three brothers.

          The funeral was held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Saylor of Hiram, 0[hio]., conducting the service, and the burial was in the Culver cemetery.

          A good woman, respected by everyone, and known for her kindness of heart, has gone to her great reward - DECEMBER 3, 1914. Citizen

          Joseph Wilford Medbourn, son of Samuel and Ann Medbourn, was born near Culver, Ind., March 2nd, 1862, and died at his home north of Culver on April 25, 1904, aged 42 years, 1 month and 23 days.

          He was married to Miss Laura Easterday on December 30th, 1888, to which union five children, three boys and two girls, were born, of which Wilford E., Lester L., Walter R. and Lena G. are living, Lola May having proceeded her father.

          He was of a family of ten children, of which three sisters. Miss Mary Medbourn, Mrs. Cecila VanSchoiack and Mrs, Clara Haag, and one brother, George, survive him.

          He was a member of the Maxinkuckee Christian Church, had lived all his life in this vicinity and was respected and recognized as a citizen of sterling quality by all.

          He was a faithful husband and a beloved father and the bereft family has the sympathy of the entire community.

          The funeral services were conducted from the Evangelical church on Wednesday, April 27th, by Rev. C. H. DeVoe, of Rochester. - 5 Mar 1904 Culver Citizen

            Lester Louis (Red) Medbourn of North Judson died Saturday at Starke Memorial hospital in Knox. He was seventy-five years of age.

            Born Oct. 30, 1893, in Culver, he was a son of Joseph and Laura Easterday Medbourn. His marriage to Louise Selle of Winamac, took place in 1926.

            He worked for the Pennsylvania railroad for many years as a trackman, and lived several years in Winamac before moving to North Judson.

            Survivors include the widow; one son, Robert Louis Medbourn of North Judson; one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Joyce Elaine) Branham of Culver; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Walter of Logansport; one sister, Miss Lena Medbourn of Logansport. - Pulaski County Journal [Winamac, Ind.], June 12, 1969
