Mary Sheerin Kuhn Reiley, a 10-year South Shore resident died suddenly May 8, 2007 as a result of injuries sustained in an accident at her home at Allerton House.

Born in Indianapolis, Ind., she was the daughter of Walter W. and Julia Monica Sheerin Kuhn. She graduated from Georgetown Visitation School in Washington, D.C. and later attended Connecticut College for Women.

Mrs. Reiley led a rich and rewarding life, and was always regarded as a determined and courageous woman. After opening a specialty store in Indianapolis with her cousin Barbara Rocap, she left to work with the American Red Cross Services to Armed Forces, during World War II, establishing Club Service in Italy, Yugoslavia and North Africa. Returning to the United States, she met her future husband, George Chatillon Reiley in New York City. The Reileys raised their young family in Old Greenwich, Conn., where Mrs. Reiley was actively involved in the American Red Cross Service to family and friends of the military, the Junior League of Connecticut, and the Greenwich Garden Club. She was also a member of a group of Roman Catholic parents that established the Whitby School, the first Montessori School in the United States.

Wife of the late George C. Reiley, Mrs. Reiley leaves her children, Monica Reiley of Hingham, George and Jane Reiley of Cave Creek, Ariz., Sara and Kevin Ryan of Dummerston, Vt., a niece Holly Kuhn Lee, two nephews Walter and Thomas Kuhn; five grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Walter “Bud” W. Kuhn, Jr., of Indianapolis.

A funeral Mass will be on May 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, 147 North St., Hingham. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
