Arthur Wilson O'Keefe was born April 8, 1880 in Marshall County to William and Bertha Snyder O'Keefe. A lifetime resident of the county, he graduated from Plymouth High School in 1900.

On November 10, 1901 he married a classmate, Leonore Deeds, daughter of Dr. Henry A. and Dora Wahl Deeds.

To them were born three sons,
William Henry, born April 14, 1903 and who lived but 12 days;
Alves, born September 11, 1904 and
Edgar, born October 26, 1906.
Alves and his wife, Doris, were killed in a traffic accident in Fulton County in 1964. Descended from county pioneers, Arthur was not only a prominent local historian and one of the founders of the historical society but also a "history maker" in his own right.

As a building contractor he built more than 100 dwellings and public buildings in Indiana. In Plymouth the old Carnegie Public Library, St. Michael Catholic Church, the Lincoln Junior High School and West School buildings were some of his projects.

He also built some 50 miles of public roads in the county including the Muckshaw Road from Plymouth to the Fulton County line.

He also served as deputy county treasurer under his father, William, and was owner of the O'Keefe Lumber and Coal Company in Plymouth.

He was co-founder and a president of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and the Plymouth Rotary Club. He helped to raise funds for the purchase of Magnetic Park in Plymouth and, at the age of 64, he earned his student pilot wings.

He was a member of the Democrat party, as was his father before him.

Of an adventurous nature, at the age of 15 in 1895, he and Rollo Cummins rode ther bicycles over unimproved roads to Bucyrus, Ohio, a 235 mile journey. At about the same age he also rode his horse, "Quick Step", on a trip into Kentucky.

Although he and Leonore were later divorced, neither remarried.

He died on September 8, 1965 at the age of 85. Leonore died June 6, 1969 the age of 87. Both are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery.
