Schuyler Colfax OVERMYER, aged 73, died at his home three miles southeast of Culver at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Death res ulted from a stroke of apoplexy which was suffered at 8:30 o'clock in the morning. Mr. Overmyer who engaged in farming throughout his entire life had a wide acquaintance of friends throughout Marshall and Fulton counties.

Mr. Overmyer was born in F ulton county on October 8th, 1896 [sic 1866]. He was the son of Ezechial and Mary OVERMYER. His wife was Clara CROMLEY. The deceased was a member of the Evangelical church of Culver .

The survivors are two daughters, Mrs. W. McNEIL, of Rochester; Mrs. Louis WITHAM, of Hammond, Ind.; four sisters, Mrs. Carrie FLORA Mrs. Emma BABCOCK, both of Rochester; Mrs. Emma RHEINHOLDT [sic], of Monterey; Mrs. Lucy BURNS, of Surry, N.D. Three brothers and five sisters preceded Mr. Overmyer in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning 10:30 o'clock in the Culver Evangelical church. Rev. HALEY will officiate. Burial will be made in the Masonic cemetery, at Culver . The body was removed from the Foster funeral home at noon today to t he Overmyer residence, where it will lie in state until the hour of the services.

Mrs. Clara Louise OVERMYER, 71, died Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Esta WITHAM of Hammond. Mrs. Overmyer had been a resident of Culver throughout her entire life. She had been in ill health for the past few months and was residing with her daughter in Hammond.

Mrs. Overmyer was born February 4, 1871 on a farm southeast of Culver . Her husband, Schuyler OVERMYER, preceded in death in 1940. She was a member of the Culver E. U. B. church.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Witham, Mrs. Dessie McNEIL of Rochester; a sister, Mrs. Kathryn BURKETT of Culver ; a brother, Jacob CROMLEY of Culver ; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday 2 p.m. at the Culver E. U. B. church with the Rev. I. C. ROEDERER officiating and burial will be in the Culver cemetery. The body lies in state at the Easterday funeral home, Culver .

Dessie Mae McNEIL, 90, Rt. 7, Rochester, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in Canterbury Manor Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 22, 1894 in Culver to Schuyler and Clara CROMLEY OVERMYER, and lived most of her life in Marshall and F ulton Counties. She was married June 15, 1913 in Plymouth to Walter E. McNEIL, who died Aug. 28, 1970. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Culver .

Surviving are two sons, Donald A. [McNEIL], Rochester, and Royal N. [McNEIL], Mishawaka; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, a granddaughter and a sister preceded in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Foster & Good Funeral Home in Rochester with the Rev. Raleigh C. WALKER officiating. Burial will be in the Culver Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and on Saturday for an hour before services.



Dessie married Walter Edward Mc Neil on 5 Jun 1913 in Plymouth, Marshall, Indiana. Walter was born 24 Mar 1888 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. He died 28 Aug 1970 in Rochester, Fulton, Indiana and was buried in Culver Masonic Cemetery, Culver , Marshall, Indiana.

Final rites for Walter E. McNEIL, 82, R.R. 1, Rochester (Lake Manitou), will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. A. E. GIVENS officiating. Burial will be in the Culver Masonic cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. McNeil died at 12:15 p.m. Friday in Woodlawn hospital, where he was admitted Thursday. He had been in failing health several years.

Born March 24, 1888 in Boston, Mass., he was one of the 20 orphans who were taken into Rochester homes in 1892 and was reared in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy MYERS. He resided most of his life in F ulton county and had spent the winters in Palm Harbor, Fla., for the last 21 yers. He was married June 5, 1913 in Plymouth to Dessie M. OVERMYER, who survives. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a member of the Emmanuel Methodist church of Culver .

Surviving with the wife are two sons, Donald E. [McNEIL], of Indio, Cal., and Royal N. [McNEIL], of South Bend; five grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. A daughter, Mrs. Clary Jean ANDRUS, died four years ago

"Donald E. McNEIL, 75, of 1407 Ewing Road, drowned in four feet of water in front of his west shore Lake Manitou home Monday evening.

Deputy Coroner Ed WENRICK listed cause of death as accidental drowning.

Reports to city police, the F ulton County Emergency Medical Service and to Wenrick indicate that this is what happened:

McNeil had been having trouble with the boat lift at the pier of his home about five doors south of the Lake Manitou Dam. He went out between 5 and 5:30 p.m. to check on the lift.

When he had not come back to the house in about half an hour, his wife, Joan [McNEIL], became worried and talked to some neighbors about the situation.

County police logged a telephone call at 6:10 p.m. from “an excited female that an elderly neighbor man was in the water by his boat.”

At 6:11 p.m., Mrs. McNeil telephoned police that her husband, “had just drowned.”

City and county police and EMS personnel responded to the call. Officers said that McNeil was on the pier when they arrived. They were told that neighbors found the body floating in about four feet of water at the rear of the pier.

EMTs applied cardio-p ulmonary resuscitation at the scene and in the amb ulance on the way to Woodlawn Hospital, but were unable to revive him.

Wenrick said he has been unable to determine why McNeil apparently fell from his boat into the water, or why he was unable to stand up after falling.

The drowning was the first at Lake Manitou since May 10, 1982, when an Illinois man died while swimming from a pontoon boat in front of Raker’s Porthole Marina on the north shore.

The last drowning in the county was a double-drowning on June 2, 1990 when two Kewanna area people died in the waters of Fletcher’s Lake.
Donald E. McNEIL, 75, of 1407 Ewing Road, (Lake Manitou), Rochester, died about 5:30 p.m. Monday at his residence.

He was born Sept. 18, 1915 in Culver to Walter and Dessie OVERMYER McNEIL. On June 15, 1938 in Rochester he married R. Joan CAMBLIN, who survives. He retired in 1971 from the postal service in Indio, Calif., where he lived. He then moved to Palm Harbor, Fla., and in 1978 he moved to Rochester. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the AARP and the America Legion.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Sheila J. KNIGHT, Ferndale,Wash.; a son, Dennis C. [McNEIL], Ferndale, Wash.; a granddaughter; three great-grandchildren, and a brother, Royal McNEIL, Mishawaka. preceding in death was a sister, Clara ANDRUS.

Private graveside services will be conducted at the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the F ulton County Animal Shelter. Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester, is in charge of arrangements
