Go out Meridian St. to the canal and along the canal road to Broad Ripple. Take the paved Carmel road. Then follow detour signs tofirst good road north of the Lake Erie & Western Railroad, about thirty-eight miles north of Indianapolis. Turn east and go one mile. Turn north through Sharpsville to end of road. east one and a half miles. Turn north through the little town of Center, keeping north to end of road. Turn east to end of road. Go north through Peru to Rochester. At courthouse at Rochester keep north to clump of trees, marked "cedar" on the map above, about seven miles north of Rochester. Turn west and follow road to Maxinkuckee. Distance about 119 miles. |

| Excellent Roads Leads to Lake No matter how hot the summer, the heat will never take the joy out of a week end trip to any of the many beautiful and refreshing lakes located in northern Indiana. A trip of this sort will afford the tourist and his family a chance to participate in all 1 kinds of outdoor activities. The touring department of the Hoosier Motor Club has outlined a trip to Lakes Manitou, Maxinkuckee and Bass, all located in comparative close relation to each other. The route: Drive north on N. Meridian St. over State Rd, 1 [now 31], passing through Carmel, Kokomo, and Peru to Rochester, where Lake Manitou is one mile east of the city in Fulton County. To reach Lake Maxinkuckee continue north on State Rd. 1 [now 31] to Argos west on State Rd. 50 [now 10] to Culver situated at Lake Maxinkuckee. From Culver continue west on State Rd. 50 to Bass Lake. A different return route may be taken on leaving Lake by driving south on Rd. 15, passing through Winamac to Logansport. At Logansport drive east on State Rd. 7 to State Rd. 1 and south to Indianapolis. From Indianapolis to Lake Maxinkuckee distance is. 121 miles. From there to Indianapolis, distance is 128 miles. Route from Indianapolis to Peru is over paved road. Remainder of route outlined is over good gravel roads.
