1953 - May 6 - Culver Men Query County Commissioners on Status of Lake Maxinkuckee Road
    (The Plymouth Pilot News)

At the regular meeting of the Marshall County Commissioners Monday at Plymouth two Culver men brought up a problem which directed the commoissioner attention back to 1927 when a road, now State Road 117 running through Culver Miilitary Academy was changed to by-pass the Academy.

Arthur Schweideler and Wayne Mattox brought the following problem to the commissioners.

Is a road leading from Road 117 through CMA property to Maxinkuckee Lake the property of the county or the academy?

The two men referred to documents dated in 1927 when a road which is now Route 117 was buikt, The two Culver men and commissioners after studying the document believe that it provided that a road from 117 to the lAke should be owned and maintained by the county.

County Engineer Hildebrand, was supposed to establish a survey point on 117 where the road was to start. The survey was never carried out, but a road has been open to public use with one exception Schweideler and Mattox said the academy did have a padlock gate across it for a short time.

Schweideler and Mattox requested that the survey originally planned to be made in 1928, be made now and that the point be established where the road will run from 117 to the lake and afford the punlic a route to the and from the lake. It is believed that the point will be established where the road now stands and the survey will make the road a legal public route.

Todays view of the area assumed to be the point in question in the above article.
