...It must be the Lake Water

Feveish activity at the Academy's new West Terrace Addition has caused much speculation
as to just what gives. With five new excavations for houses and sewer connections being
load we endeavored to ferrer-out just what was going on
In the absence of General Spivey apparently no one was in authority to present a clear
picture for the edification of the palpitiating readers of this column. (This was a real
opportunit y for the new CMA public relations director, Robert Matson, to cut his
wisdom teeth locally, but no state ment was been forth coming.)
What has been learned is that five faculty families, including the Kemp Moores and the
Dr. Milan D. Bakers, are building homes.
Whether this development is open to the public is not known, which has led several citizens
to become suspect that althought these houses will be supplied town sewage and town water,
they will not be a part of the corporation co Culver, and will benefut about $1,14 per
hubdred assessed property valuations in tax rates, the differential between town and
township
Now this certainly is all wrong these townites say, and it's up to the town board to protect
its residents' rights.
SHould this practice continue as it did in the Bogardus Addition it can spread to all outlaying
residential areas not within the corporation,
In other and plainer worods, the town will be wearing out its water and sewage systems to
benefit outlanders not paying the town propeorty tax.

Last week's rains flooded basements all over town but the worst was where water off the clay banks
at West Terrace ran across Academy ROad and in a stream of creek proportions floodinf Winfield Behner's
radio and television repair shop and filled the basement of his apartment next door with seven feet of
silt and water. En ough to make any householder leave home.
