And be i further remembered that a motion was made by Trustee Walter which motion was duly
seconded by Trustee Geiselman that Samul Ulery be appointed Secretary of the Board of Health, to
have and to hold said office for one year or until his successor is duly appointed and qualified The yeas and
nays were taken on said motion and Trustee Walter and Geiseleman voted in the affirmative and the
President James H declared said motion carried
And be it further rememdered that in motion which duly seconded and carried the clerk was
instructed to draw an order in gavor of Thomas Medbourndor S3.50 payment in full for services as
Secretay of the Board of Health.

Be it remembered that the Town Board of the town of Culver City (Formerly Marmont)
met in regular session of the 5th day of APril 1897 at 7 Oclock P. M.
Present at said meeting Trustees James H. Castleman D. G. Walter and E. W. Geiselman
And be it further remembered that the folllowing petition was presented by the Culver
Military Academy for permission to place telephone poles within the limits of Culver City
and to place wires thereon for telephone purposes to connect said academy and the
store of Porter and company in Culver City formerly called Marmont which petition is in the
words and figures following towit:

Gentlemen
We the under signed respectfully petition your honorable body for permission to run
a telephone wire or wires along the right-of-way of the Terre Haute and Indianapolis
Railroad Company if permission of said Company be first obtained to a point within said
town neat J. B. Hariss saw mill and from that point we ask the privilege from your
onorable body to place poles along th streets from thence to the stor of Porter and
Company and to stretch thereon telephone wires fro telephone puporses and to be
permitted to use and operate telephones from said store to the Culver Academy.

And thereupon the following resolution was introduced and read by Trustee D. G. Walter.
Whereas it appears that a petition has been presented to this board |

by the Military Academy asking permission to form telephone communication betwee
said Academy and the store of Porter and Company and to stretch wires and erect poles
within the coporate limits of Culver City as therein set forth.
Therefore be it resolved by the Board of Trustees of Culver Indiana that permission be and
is hereby granted to said Military Academy to stretch wire or wires along the right-of-way of
the Terre Haute and Indianapolis Railroad Company provided always that said company
consents thereto for telephone purposes to a point near the saw mill property of T. B.
Harris and thence to erect poles along the streets of said town to the store of Porter
and Company and to place wires there on for pelephone purposes between purposes
said store and said Academy. Porvided however that this privelge and concession is given to
said Military Academy subject to the rights of the Plymouth Telephone Company to use said
streets and said Academy shall so place its poles and wires and aparatus as not to form an
obstruction to the wires, poles or apparatus of the siad Plymouth Telephone Company.
And said Trustee moved the the adoption of said resolution as read. ANd the ayes and nays
were taken theron. Trustees Walter and Geisleman voting in the affirmative and th President
of said board James H. Castleman declared said resolution passed and adopted.
And be it further remembered that on motion which was duly seconded and crried it was
decided to purchase

three road scrapers and one iron beam plow of Henry Overman and on
motion which was duly seconded and carried the clerk was instructed to draw an order in favor
of said Overmand for the sum of $15.00
Be it further remembered that a motion was made by Trustee Geiselman which motion was
duly seconded by Trustee Walter that George W. Voreis be appointed as INspector of an
election to be held May 3rd 1897. The nays and yaes were taken upon said motion. Trustees
Walter and Geisleman voting in the affirmative and the President of said Board James H.
Castleman declared said motion carried.
And be it further remembered that on motion the clerk was authorized to procure election
supplies for the election to me held May 3rd 1897

7" day of Jun 1897 at 7 Oclock P.M. Present at said meeting James H. Castleman
Abraham Hayes and Alber G. Keen Trustees of said town.

And be it further remembered that the following resolution was presented and read by
F. L. Carl Clerk of said town
Resolved by the Town Trustees of Culver City Indiana that the right is hereby given
to the Central Union Telephone Company, its sussessors and assigns to place and
maintain upon the highsways of said Town, the poles, wires and fixtures necessary
and conovenient for supplying to the public communications by telephone or other
improved electrical device; provided that at no time shall any such public highways be
obstructed for ptravel. Provided further that the town shall have the right to attach
fire alarm and police wires to the top cross arm of all poles erected under this
resolution an said wires to be erected under the direction of the Telephone company's
Superintindent and in such manner as not to interfere with the proper working of
said company;s wires.
And it was moved by ALbert G. Keen which motion was seconded by Abraham Hayes that
said resolution be passed and adopted as read.
The ayes and nays were taken on said motion, Trustees Keen and Hayes voting in the
affirmative and the prpresident of said Board James H. Castleman dieclared said motion

Indiana that that the Marshall of said town is hereby authorized to appoint one deputy
at the expenses of the town and as many more at his own expense as in his judgement it
seems necessary
Sec. 2 - Whereas an emergency exists for the immediate taking effect of this ordinance the
same shall be in force from and after its passage.

clerk was instructed to draw orders for the different town officers salaries.
And be it further remembered that Trustee ALber A Keen presented and read the
following ordiance fixing the levy for taxes of said town for the year 1897. An ordinance
fixing then tax levy of te Town of CUlver City Ind. for the year 1898 which ordianace is
No. 13.
Be ir ordained by the Board of Trustees of the Town of Culver City Indiana that the followoing
levy of taxes be and is herby made for the year 1898 for said town towit:
For Corporatin purposes on each $100 valuation of the taxable property in said town
FOrty cents and on each poll Twenty five ents.
On each #100.00 valuation of the taxable property property of said Town for road purposes
Twenty FIve cents.
WHereas an emergency exists for the immediate taking effect of this ordinance it shall
therefore be in force and effect from and after passage.

And be it further remembered that on motion which was duly seconded and carried a permit was
granted Urias Menser to erect a building on the north side of his hardware store said building to
extended into the street so as to be on a line with said store building
And be it further remembered that on account of the resignation of Samuel Ulery as Secretary of
the Board of Health the Board selected and appointed Thomas Medbourn as Secretary of the Board
of Health for the town of CUlver City to have and to hold said office for the term of one year or
until his successor is elected and qualifed.
