More Entertainment for the Excursionist.
The Vandalia railroad company is having a large octagon band stand, twenty feet in diameter,
erected in the park.
It will be a very commodious stand and will be built with a view of putting a substantial roof on in the near
future. We have long needed a band stand for the use of the bands that come on excursions and this
will fill a long felt want.
Ihere is a rumor to the effect that the railroad company intends to engage a
theatrical troupe and put on a high class vaudeville in the park this summer.
Something of this sort is badly needed. We have means of bringing people here.
The beauties of old Maxinkuckee are known the country over, but we
are sadly in need of first class entertainment for the people after
they are here.
Why not hold a meeting, organize and approach the railroad company with a proposition
to start a good vaudeville here. They certainly would be willing to do their part and that
with the contributions of the business men who would be benefited by such an
entertainment, would make the cost light on all, as well as a great benefit to all.
Better to have more entertainment and less carousal. People that come here
and get drunk do so, mostly, because there is nothing else to do.
They go down and take a, steam boat ride, then a row boat ride, eat dinner and then
unless they drink booze, they are through.
