Defense Office Calls Off Hearing On Pennsy Train Service Plea
Cancellation of hearings on the petition of the Pennsylvania railraod to discontinue two passenger
trains on the South Bend and Logansport division has been announced at the office of the
I ndiana Public Service Commission at Indianapols through orders of the United States Office of
Defense Transportation at Washington D.C.
The tranis which the railroad comany wished to discontinue were Nos. 316 and 319 and thus would
of ended passenger train service on the Logansport and South Bend division.
A hearing on the company's petitions was to have bee held in the Culver town hall on Thursday
morning July 23, and residents of Culver, Grass Creek, Kewanna, Bruce Lake, Delonf and other points
had planned to attend and protest against the annulment of the service
The Culver town officials and a delegation from the CHamber of Commerce have bee circulating
petitions against the railroad's proposal, and had planned to file these along with letters from
cottagers and others with the commision. Verbal objections were also being arranged when word
was received of the canellation of the hearing.
It is presumed that the cancellation means that the railroad's passenger service will be continued
ast at present.
