Ten Members of CMA Military Staff Leave For Camp Perry, Ohio -
    Col. F. N. Lammons, professor of Military Science and Tactics at Culver Military Acasemy and ten members of his staff have bee ordered by the War department to detached temporary duty with the provisional training battalion at Camp Perry ohio. They were scheduled to report last week

First Total Blackout Test for Countty to Be Held Thurs July 29
    ...For those who might question why this area should have blackout drills. It is pointe dout that military authorities have declared the Midwest is more accessible for bombing than either coast and a bombing more effective since the Midwest is the site of so many war industries. The area is also the center of the nation's transportation system...


Report On Finances of War Fund To Date
    Over 875 individual pledges were made to the Union Twosnhip War Relief and Charities Fund...The report, the first to be made since the fund was founded in March of this year shows that from all sources there $7,345.93.

    It was reveled that in addition tot he total mount colledted in cash pledges, $1,208.25 remainds to be paid on 184 installments pledges...

    In the first quarter the directors hace sanctioned the payment of $2,929.11 of which #2,500 was paid to the American Red Cross... The financial report as of July 12 is as follows:

Officers of the Culver Defense Corps will meet Thurday Jul 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the basement of the library. As this meeting will plan for the forthcoming blackout, all officers are urged to be present.



Issues Rules for Christmas Packages
    Christmas packages may be mailed to American men in armed service overseas without a request from the soildiers... Such packages must be mailed between September 15 and October 15 and are subject to certain restrictions laid down by the department.

    The term "armed forces overseas" is regarded as covering all men who recieve their mail through an A.P.O. or fleet post office in care of the psotmaster at New YOrk, New Orleans, San Francisco, Seattle or Presque Isle.

    Parcels should be makred "Christmas Parcel"... shall not exceed five pounds in weight or fifteen inches in length or thirty-six inches in length and girth combined...Not more than one Christmas package or parcel will be accepted for mailing in any one week when sent by or on behalf of the same person. Perishable matter will not be accepted.

OPA Sptted Out-of-State driver Here July Fourth - That the OPA had spotters at Lake Maxinkuckee on the double holiday ove July 4th is confirmed by the publication in Chicago papers of thise who have been reported to their local ration boards. in that area for driving "long" distances on their vacation trips....

Isssues Regulations For Toatal Blackout This Thursday Night
    There will be a total blackout in the town of Culver and the surroundins areas some time during the night of Thuraday, July 29, by order of the Civiliam Deense Director of the State of Indiana

    No hour has as yet been set for the blackout, and it will not be published in in any event...

    ...four prolonged blasts of the fire siren in the town of Culver and four blasts on the Academy whistle. The special siren in downtown Culver will also be sounded.

    Immediately at the sounding of the signal, all lights will be turned out including street and auot lights. Autos will pull ot the curb and remain there until recall from the blackout has sounded, when light may be turned on again.

    No matches will be lighted, neither infoors or out, and its requested that smoking of cigarettes, cigars, and pipes be discontinued during the balckout. Persons on the street will be expected to take shelter. Do no use the telephone during the black out.

    At the sounding of the blackout signal, area captains will post their block wardens at once, and all wardens assisted by Boy Scouts are herewith chargged with the total enforcement of the above enumerated blackout reguglations...

    The name of any citizen who refuses to obey the request of any warde well be reported to the Civilian Defense Headquarters...

    It is requested that all citizens cooperate to the fullest in this first balckout dril...

SUrprise Blackout on Monday Night -
    The surprise blackout of 12 countied in the South Bend area promised for some time from Aug. 23 to 28 arrived on Monday night and was handled locally with the minumum of confusion... The blackout came at the climas of the commencement actifities of the CUlver SUmmer Schools... However the school was the first to be reported blacked out inspite of the large number of visitors of the grounds

    MOre lights were observed arounf the lake than at the time of the county wide-blackout and a few homes in town were reported with lights on and the occupants away from home. Fewer violations in the business are were found than in the prvious test.

    Monday night's blackout brought out the need for householder to extinguis all lights when they leave home and for people to stay off the streets during the blackout...
