L. R. Ford, Fence Firm Head, Dies At Boat Race |

L. Roy Ford Sr., president of the Ford Fence Company, died of a heart attack
yesterday while serving as commodore of the Maxinkuckee Yacht Club's first
race of the year. Mr. Ford, who was 52 years old, was a lifelong resident of
Indianapolis. His address on East 96th Street was R.R. 14, Box 306.
Sailboats were on the first lap of the first race at Lake Maxinkuckee in Marshall
County. Mr. Ford was in a boat with Edgar Hauser, Indianapolis, when he suddenly
fell toward the water. HAUSER caught the slumping man and guided the boat to a pier.
The Culver Fire Department attempted unsuccessfully to revive Mr. Ford. A graduate
of Purdue University, Mr. Ford was employed in the engineering department of Link-Belt
Company before starting his own business about 25 years ago, It grew into one of the
largest companies of its type in Indiana.
He was a member of the Church of the Wildwood, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, the Masonic
Order, Scottish Rite, the Rotary Club, and the Indianapolis Athletic Club. He was a
past Rotary director.
SURVIVORS are the widow, Mrs. Ford; sons, Lee Margaret, and Jerold R. Ford, and three
sisters, Mrs. Burke Miller, Plainfield; Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas, Plainfield, and Mrs.
Pitt Vaughan, Stilesville.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Friends may view the body at the Mortuary after noon today.
