Yacht Races of 1906
BOAT RACING BEGINS
First Event The Maxinkuckee Lake Regatta Pulled off Monday.
LOGANSPORT CAT BOAT WINS
THIS CITY NOT REPRESENTED IN RACE OF SLOOPS.
The first event of the Maxinkuckee Lake Regatta was pulled off yesterday under conditions which made it one
of the best boat racing contests ever given on this course. The event was given under the auspices of the Aubbeenaubee
Yachting club.
In the sloop events Logansport was not represented, but in the races of the cat
boats Logansport was right in the swing. Edmund
Wilson's "Eloise" won first and Harry Routh's "Indian" third.
The weather was fairly favorable, a light, puffy west wind prevailing. The boats covered an eight mile course, triangular
in form, two times around. Boats were started off at intervals of five to ten minutes. This worked well with the cats, but "White Lady III,"
of the sloops, secured a handicap, which enabled it to run away from the others. The cat race was the prettiest
o£ the two, the last four boats finishing 150 feet apart.
The next race will be sailed Saturday, July 14.
